The expectations of the 2005 vintage from Margaret River, for red wine quality in particular, are very high and the Mallee Root will not disappoint.

This wine is a blend of Cabernet Franc (66 %) and Malbec (34%) grown from the Victory Point vineyard.

The combination of these varieties gives a full flavoured wine with light tannins.
It is suitable for drinking with slightly spicy foods as well as robust braises of meat or fruits.

The wine was matured in French oak (30% new) for 18 months and bottled February 2007.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Deep red and purple hues and the condition is bright.

Bouquet: The Cabernet Franc and Malbec fruit aromas are to the fore, with a wide range of dark fruit notes like black currant, mulberry and cherry, sitting amongst earthy and tarry notes.

Palate: These same dark fruit notes give a rich, juicy mid-palate, which is long and runs to a relatively soft tannin finish with some toasty, tarry oak.

Cellaring: With such lively fruit notes and balance, the wine is very attractive early drinking and can be enjoyed straight away.  However, its structure and depth mean that it will also repay short term cellaring over the next 5 years.

A blend of opposites, but not the only one in the Margaret River; sweet juicy fruit flavours, with fine, soft tannins and a long finish certainly establishes the blend is a valid one.
