2022 Pinot Noir

PN NV (002) crop

The 2022 Vintage
The region experienced an unusually cool and overcast Spring. The cold Spring nights and overcast conditions delayed budburst. A wet October filled soil moisture and nicely set up the growing season ahead.
Our Pinot Noir was hand harvested on the 28th February ay 12.0 Baume.

The Winemaking
The fruit was cold soaked for 2 days, hand plunged in small batch open top fermenter with 10% whole bunch and a total of 11 days on skins to achieve a brightly fruited wine with good flesh
100% Pinot Noir (65% Clone 777, 35% Clone 115)
Eight months in French oak barriques, 16% new

Tasting Notes

The bouquet is complex and alluring, featuring a fragrant lift of cranberry intertwined with hints of green pepper, a nod to the whole bunch fermentation. Sweet, smoky oak adds an additional layer of depth, creating a rich and multifaceted aromatic profile.
On the palate, the wine is both coated and expressive. The sweet fruit flavours are beautifully balanced by the savory tannins from the rachis, which lend a structured backbone to the wine. The tannins provide a nuanced texture and contribute to the overall poise and balance of the wine.
The finish is clean and elegant, with lingering notes of fruit and a subtle touch of oak. This Pinot Noir is an attractive and bright example from a remarkable Margaret River vintage.

Victory Point 2022 Pinot Noir

I’ll even entertain only two Pinots from Margaret River — this is one. Pomegranate, fresh-cut hay, cranberry, and freeze-dried strawberries… in chocolate. Elegant and rough around the edges. Gentle lavender, crushed gravel, and candle wax. There’s a lot to like about this little needle in the hayshed (couldn’t think of a better analogy — but it fits). The 16% new French oak and 10% whole bunch are well hidden — framing but not taking away from place. It runs a touch hot, but for a region that “can’t do Pinot,” this is a cheeky little treat. Have with rabbit stew, cooked over coals, listening to The Doors.
