2019 Cabernet Franc

2019 Cabernet Franc

The 2019 vintage will be remembered as one of the toughest in the South West region. A late and cool Spring, with frosts in many locations. There was a complete lack of Marri blossom leading up to, and during, the harvest period meaning bird pressure was intense, and indeed resulted in widespread damage.

Heavy rainfall and associated humidity during late summer increased the risk of disease, though Victory Point was lucky to avoid any issues. The Cabernet Franc was picked at 13.6 Baume on the 12th April 2019.

The fruit was hand-plunged in small batch open-top fermenters, with a total of six days on skins to achieve a brightly fruited wine with good flesh and a refined tannin profile. French oak barrels were used, of which 25% were brand new. The wine was aged in barrel for nine months, and then bottled under in January 2020 under a screw cap.

Tasting Notes

• Smoky cassis, red currant, cherry, mulberry, bay leaf, aniseed and violet aromas
• Smooth, silky tannins with cherries, currants, violets and spice flavours
• Lovely light to medium bodied wine
• Ready for immediate drinking and in the coming few years
