2010 Chardonnay

Tasting Notes from Winemaker,
Mark Messenger:
This superbly elegant Chardonnay has an underlying power due to the quality of the site and resulting grapes. Initially the nose offers lemon curd, smokey, flinty notes backed by white peach, almond meal and toasty vanilla. The palate has a citrus like purity running through it overlayed by peach, nougat and nutty/buttery complexity, it is finely structured with a long juicy finish.

This exceptional wine is now our most warded wine having received the following accolades:

Gary's BBQ Crayfish - Secret Tips

First – catch or buy your crayfish.
Take it home and carefully put it in the freezer, to cool him down.
Once he’s “asleep” lay him on his back and slice in half lengthwise, through the under carriage.

WA Rock lobster

Clean out rubbish from the head, but leave some of the mustard and remove the digestive track.
With the shell side down, rub the flesh with fresh garlic butter, seasoned with chilli or fresh herbs or just good salt and pepper.
Place the crayfish onto a hot bbq plate or grill, shell side down. Do not turn over, the meat will gently cook in its own juices.
Leave for 5-8 minutes, depending on size. Turn the bbq off & lower the lid for another 2 or 3 minutes to set the flesh.
A squeeze of lemon and a glass of very slightly chilled Victory Point chardonnay to is all that is required to finish.

2014 Vintage Report & News

What a classic summer and perfect end to the vintage we have experienced in Margaret River this year. The warm weather is accompanied by clean, clear air gently pushing a sea breeze through the vineyard to hold off the heat. The incredibly blue skies of the day roll into crisp cool nights which lower the grape temperature and assist in lengthening the ripening period. This enables the fruit to develop its flavours slowly, adding to the complexity and intensity that great Margaret River wines offer.
2014 Chardonnay picking

Chardonnay picking started at Victory Point on the 17th and finished on the 24th of February with the last batches of the Mendoza and 95 clones coming in early on the Monday. 

As well as the usual “united nations” team of pickers, we were pleased to get some help from Claudia and her friends, prior to going back to their studies for the year. There’s nothing like a few 5am starts and long mornings covered in dust and grape juice to focus the mind back on the books……thanks kids and I hope you will enjoy looking back on vintage 2014, over a glass of Victory Point Chardonnay in a few years time.  

2014 ROSÉ  

At the time of writing the Malbec and Cabernet Franc grapes for the 2014 Rosé have also been picked and are looking great in the winery. The wine will be another classic dry Rosé ,created in the styles of Provence, but to perfectly match the great food of our Australian summers.

Fabulous salads (from my cookbook of the summer, by Yotam Ottolenghi), Crayfish, Dhufish and smoked fish... and the great thing about Rosé is that it also matches the more substantial flavours of barbequed meats like Moroccan lamb sausages and Sumac chicken, coming straight off the bbq... yum! 

The wine will be released in September, be sure to put your order in as demand exceeded supply for the 2013 vintage, with the last cases being distributed to some great clients... Morries Anytime... (the place to be in Margaret River!)

Margaret River News - Virgin Airlines flies to Busselton

Vintage is in full swing in the Margaret River and it coincides with the best time of the year to visit this beautiful region. the winds are dropping, days are long and nights are cool.

VP gets connected to social media!!

Over the last couple of months we have also had the expertise of University of Notre Dame Marketing graduate, Justin Jubber, who has undertaken his internship with us. Justin has helped connect Jude with the 21st century communications and you can now follow Victory Point wines on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, where we share what's happening in the vineyard, around Margaret River region and where our wines are sold.

Charlie working at Moss Wood

While we’ve gained Justin, we’ve lost son Charlie …..…to Moss Wood vineyard, where he will spend a “gap year” under the tutelage of Clare & Keith Mugford. Of course, Charlie was very keen and excited to be given the opportunity to spend a year with one of Australia's best wine producers and live full time in Margaret River…….the 5am starts and long days of vintage have not yet wiped the smile from his face.
